Photographs of the Propylaea - Views of the South Wall of the NW Wing

These images are from the CSA Propylaea Project archives and are copyrighted.
Their use is granted only under the conditions described in the copyright statement.

There are nearly 100 images of the east south of the NW wing here, some showing the entire wall and some showing very small portions in great detail. It is difficult to present all these images in a simple, direct fashion. To try to make them easier to navigate, we have divided them into four groups as follows:

  1. Views of the wall that are either too general or too detailed to fit into a sensible sequence and that were not taken as parts of a sequence.
  2. A sequence of views of the wall, showing the entire wall in the aggregate. The images have been ordered such that they start at the top left, move across the top, then shift down to the next level and again move across that level left to right, and so on. The first of these sequences is one made by Harrison Eiteljorg, II, in November of 2001.
  3. A second sequence - ordered similarly - made by Manolis Kapokakis, who took the photos to assist in his survey work in February of 2003.
  4. A third sequence - also ordered similarly, also made by Manolis Kapokakis, and also made in February of 2003 - consisting of photographs covering smaller individual areas than the first of Manolis Kapokakis' sequences.
  5. A fourth sequence of views of the wall - ordered similarly and made by Harrison Eiteljorg, II, in October of 2003.

A sequence of views of the wall, ordered across the top, left to right, then across the next level down, again left to right, and so on. (Note that each row of photographs includes only four images, but the number of images, right to left, of a given "row" of the wall may exceed that number. Therefore, there is no correspondence between a row of images and a "row" across the wall.) This sequences is one made by Harrison Eiteljorg, II, in November of 2001.

Therefore, there is no correspondence between a row of images and a "row" across the wall.) A third sequence, Manolis Kapokakis' second sequence of views of the wall, ordered across the top, left to right, then across the next level down, again left to right, and so on. (Note that each row of photographs includes only four images, but the number of images, right to left, of a given "row" of the wall may exceed that number. Therefore, there is no correspondence between a row of images and a "row" across the wall.) This sequence was, like the previous one, made in February of 2003. The photographs in this sequence are considerably more detailed than those in the prior sequence; so there are many more of them.

A fourth sequence of views of the wall, ordered across the top, left to right, then across the next level down, again left to right, and so on. (Note that each row of photographs includes only four images, but the number of images, right to left, of a given "row" of the wall may exceed that number. Therefore, there is no correspondence between a row of images and a "row" across the wall. Note also that there are vertical and horizontal views intermixed here, making the sequence somewhat less clear.) This sequence was made by Harrison Eiteljorg, II, in October of 2003.
